As we approach the half way marker of 2021, the Hip-Hop community has seen it's ups and downs. From the much anticipated album release of J. Cole "The Off-Season", to the passing of Legend "DMX", it seems 2021 is getting more intense the further we proceed into it. However, in Indie news, where is Albuquerque's up-and-coming phenomenon J-Zo? He's been super quiet on social media since his last post on Instagram on January 26th after the release of his latest project "Black Panthers." After months of silence, we finally get some answers. From music and fashion to business endeavors, we know J-Zo tends to stay busy, but after reaching almost 300k streams last year and bringing in his 32nd Birthday this April, what made him go ghost?
" I wasn't happy with myself. I felt like I lost sight on the reason for my passion." He explains how the things and opportunities he obtained through success such as streams, shows, interviews, money, and over-all exposure drastically altered his focus from the mission- to tell the story of J-Zo. "I wanted to take everything away from myself willingly, to really expose what made me happy and what didn't make me happy." J-Zo elaborates on how he wanted to focus on the things that made him happy and brought peace to his life-family. "Creating a better version of myself was necessary for the next level in my life." Spending time with his dogs, raising his children, taking care of his father with cancer, and breaking the generational wealth curse in his family has been his main focus these past 5 months. Ultimately bringing him back to his most productive state of mind, J-Zo says he is ready to finish 2021 strong. So we had to ask, what's next?
J-Zo has been quiet for awhile, but he definitely has a thing or two up his sleeve. Aside from music and fashion, J-Zo hints at new Cannabis partnership with " Exo Hemp Co." for his newly launched cookie product Flavor Duos. New laws in the U.S. allowed 16+ states to authorize legal recreational use of marijuana, at a time that couldn't be more perfect for J-Zo. Already branching out across Albuquerque with products in resturants, smoke shops, and more, the Cannabis market could yield promising results for J-Zo's business interests. Aside from cookies and cannabis, J-Zo also talks about his passion for film and an upcoming Show Series in the making with Media company "Advans Media." Which will showcase a ton of up-and-coming indie artists, actors, and over-looked talent in Albuquerque.
When we asked about music and any new projects coming up J-Zo responded "More than I wanna tell!" He talks about his first Album release, which will be based off his Memoir set to release late 2021- early 2022, and compared it to an emotional roller-coster similar to Beyounce's "Lemonade" album. " I want this album to make the listener experience what I went through. Good, bad, and the ugly." From childhood trauma, to life as a successful entrepreneur, J-Zo says this project will be his best work yet. To top it off, after a couple years enduring the quarantine life, J-Zo announces his first live performance in over 2 years in his home town Albuquerque New Mexico. His reemergence has definitely raised a couple eye brows, and turned a few heads.
